Hello Everyone! It’s that time of year again!!! The holidays for me are a time to relax and enjoy the people around me and avoid family stress… At least in my imaginary holiday world that’s how it works out bahahahaha! Obviously I do enjoy the people around me but I wouldn’t exactly call it the most relaxing or lacking stress. I wonder why (sarcasm here)? This is my top list of reasons for wanting to pull my hair out as we spread holiday cheer:
Shopping
For every minute I’m standing in line trying to keep my kid from destroying the store and fighting over the “perfect” gift with that crazy person who seems to disagree with why I should get the last shirt instead of them. (Really I’m worth it…HONEST!!) LOL I feel myself start to shift into the ultimate scrooge. You know; like those sexy werewolves that shift into these violent, teeth nashing crazies that top the paranormal romance charts! BTW I love those Alpha’s! I just need one to growl, sneer and brood at the mayhem for me! sigh….
Coffee Shops
I freakin’ LOVE coffee, hot chocolate and wine (the wine in moderation of course…shhhh). I’m not ashamed to admit I’m a coffee snob, which translates into my obsessive need to visit coffee shops/bookstores with coffee shops. But dammit! The sea of people looking possessed by the devil (myself included) waiting for their coffee fix is PAINFUL. It’s sooooo tempting to just open up a can of whoop ass like one of Kristen Ashley’s Rock Chicks (Indy Savage is my fav!). Good thing for the kindle app on my iphone (at least if my battery can survive the line up!)
To Eat or Not to eat – healthy
All the goddamn articles and news on how much weight people gain due to the massive amounts of fattening food. What’s worse is the amount of freakin’ recipes of said fattening foods being advertised on the same page as the goddamn articles. Oh the TORTURE!!!! You know what I say?! Screw you to all things healthy for the holidays. That’s what new years resolutions are for.
Perma Grins
You know…? Those over happy smiles people plaster on their faces like one of those weird apocalyptic characters. The Hunter Games Series comes to mind. As do a host of other books where the seriously evil leaders are trying to lull you into a sense of calm before they destroy you.
Shit it’s Cold!
This isn’t something all of you have to worry about and to be clear I love the winter because it IS beautiful. But I live in the north and I’m telling you that having your nose hairs freeze and back molars crack due to your teeth chattering while running all those holiday errands suuuuuucks!
WOW I sound a bit like a jerk! Oh well. We all have our moments but it’s not all bad. I really do love the holidays and sharing time with my loved ones; but all things in moderation right!? One of the fabulous things about being an avid reader is I can take a break from the world and immerse myself in some awesome books. Though it’s hard to find the time I make sure I decompress the best way I can and share with my fellow book nerds. 😀
In the spirit of that commitment I’ll be sharing some books that focus on holiday romance over the next couple of weeks!
Happy Holidays!!!
What drives you batty during the holidays? Any holiday romance books you’d like to recommend?
