Author Spotlight – Nikki Ashton

Nikki AshtonBio

Nikki lives in Cheshire with her husband, two dogs and lovely mother-in-law who supplies her with endless cups of tea. She writes romance with a touch of humour and lots of love, and hopes that she puts a smile on her reader’s faces. Her ambitions of becoming a writer started at the age of 10 when she started writing poetry at school, and was given the honour of reading one of her poems to the rest of her year group (a truly embarrassing experience that she will never forget). Nikki is grateful for the wide variety of strange and wonderful people in her life, otherwise she’d never know what to write about! She is currently talking to family and friends, finding out their innermost secrets in readiness for her next book.

About the Author

I should probably start by saying I’m a true romantic, so that will tell you what you’re going to get with one of my books. While I love a little bit of angst and drama, I also love a happy ending and an epilogue. Yes, I’m that person that waits in the cinema until the credits are finished-just in case!

I’m not a very focused person and I am easily swayed from the task in hand by a pretty dress, a pair of gorgeous shoes or even fan sites on the internet-I have numerous dresses that I haven’t worn, vast numbers of shoes that I can’t walk in and I could tell you what’s happening in Neighbours even though I don’t watch it. This means it’s a minor miracle that I’ve actually finished 11 books-and three in the last six months.

Of my eleven books, nine of them are romantic comedy-as I said I love a happy ending, plus I have these inappropriate thoughts in my head sometimes, and simply can’t waste them. All my rom-coms are standalone books, but characters from the previous book(s) will make an appearance. I think that came about again because of my own desperate need to know what happens to characters once a book is finished -I figured my readers might like to know too. That’s why my characters stick their noses into other character’s stories.

I have also written two contemporary romances, one of which was a collaboration with the lovely Victoria Johns-I Wanna Get Laid by Kade. We enjoyed the process so much, we’re thinking of doing a follow up. My other contemporary romance is the first in a three book series. It’s called Box of Hearts, is set on a ranch and is the first in the Connor’s Series. It’s the story of Jesse, a single dad rancher, and Millie a teacher from England, hired to help tutor his daughter Addy. I am biased, but it’s a beautiful story of love after loss and the sorrows that can come along, as well as the joy. I’ve absolutely loved mixing things up a little, with this book, especially as its given me the opportunity to write some more dramatic scenes with really deep emotions. For me, one of the biggest buzzes I get is when someone messages me to say they loved my book and it made them laugh, or even cry. I don’t set out to upset people but being able to evoke such an emotion means I’ve done a good job-unless they’re crying because they hate the book and feel they’ve wasted their money of course.

My hopes for the future are to be able to continue to write and for my readership to grow. I’ve said it many times, I may not write anything that is life changing, but if I can make you smile and keep you wanting to turn the page then I’ve done a good job.
